Dodgers Activate Austin Barnes, Option Rookie To Triple-A
What Happened?
The Los Angeles Dodgers activated catcher Austin Barnes from the 10-day injured list on Sunday. To make room on the roster, the Dodgers optioned rookie catcher Diego Cartaya to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Why It Matters
Barnes has been out since April 16th with a right adductor strain. He is expected to start behind the plate on Sunday against the San Diego Padres.
Cartaya, 21, has impressed in his brief time with the Dodgers, hitting .333 with a home run and 4 RBIs in 6 games.
What's Next
The Dodgers will hope that Barnes' return will provide a boost to their offense. The team has struggled to score runs in recent weeks, and Barnes is a solid hitter with a career .250 batting average.
Cartaya will continue to develop in Triple-A, and he could be recalled to the majors later this season if needed.
