Montreal, Canada - Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing emerged victorious in the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix, held at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on Sunday, June 19th. Verstappen held off a late challenge from Ferrari's Carlos Sainz to claim his fifth win of the season and extend his championship lead to 46 points.

Race Highlights

Verstappen started from pole position and maintained his lead into the first corner, followed by Sainz and Fernando Alonso of Alpine. Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes started fifth but quickly moved up to third place, putting pressure on Alonso. The race featured several safety car periods, the first of which was triggered by a crash involving Williams' Nicholas Latifi. This allowed Hamilton to close the gap to Verstappen, but Verstappen resumed his lead after the restart.

Sainz made a late charge for the lead, but Verstappen held him off to claim the victory. Hamilton finished third, with Alonso, George Russell of Mercedes, and Sergio Perez of Red Bull rounding out the top six.
