What is F1 Sprint?
F1 Sprint is a race run over 100km (around 25-30 minutes) and held on Saturday afternoons. The results of the Sprint determine the starting grid for the main race on Sunday.
F1 Sprint was introduced in 2021 as a way to add excitement to the Formula 1 weekend. It has proved popular with fans and drivers alike, and will be expanded to six events in 2023.
How does F1 Sprint work?
F1 Sprint is a qualifying race that takes place on Saturday afternoon. The top three finishers in the Sprint are awarded points (3 for the winner, 2 for the second-place finisher, and 1 for the third-place finisher). The winner of the Sprint also gets to start the main race on Sunday from pole position.
The starting grid for the Sprint is determined by the results of the qualifying sessions on Friday afternoon. The fastest driver in Q3 starts the Sprint from pole position.
